Young pups, kittens and babies have some protection from disease from their mothers’ immunity, but this wears off quite quickly – in dogs and cats in 6-12 weeks, and so we have to give them injections (“shots”) to give them protection from disease. This is a series of 1 or 2 vaccinations, depending on how old your pet is when we first see them. They may have had their first vaccination whilst your pet was with the breeder or at a pet shop.

We recommend that you get your pets vaccinated on an annual basis against a variety of viral diseases that are potentially fatal, as well as upper respiratory tract infections that can make them really sick. These vaccinations have dramatically reduced the number of pets suffering and dying from these diseases. ( Just as we have eradicated smallpox in humans by vaccination)
The vaccination is just part of the annual visit and health check.
